Can I really insure my Chinese electric car?
In our test on 9 October 2026, all ten tested models from nine Chinese brands, including BYD, MG, XPENG, Zeekr and NIO, received a comprehensive premium from five to eight insurers. Whether your car is accepted and at what premium depends on the car, the driver and where you live. The calculator shows you straight away.
Which insurers can I choose from?
The calculator compares insurers such as a.s.r., Nationale-Nederlanden, Avéro Achmea, Bovemij, Allianz Direct and rhion. Which insurers you see depends on your car and your details.
Is the battery covered?
With comprehensive or limited cover, damage to the car, and therefore to the battery, is generally covered under the insurer's conditions. Check the policy conditions when you choose; you can open them per insurer in the calculator.
What do I need to apply?
Your Dutch licence plate, your date of birth, your postcode and house number, how many years you have held your driving licence and your no-claim years. You can apply online straight away and receive your policy by email.
I am a car dealer. How can I help my buyers?
